About us...
The Southern Flatcoated Retriever Club was founded in August 2008 as a result of interest and demand expressed by many earlier in the year and over 50 Founder Members joined at a meeting designed to discuss the idea. This obvious enthusiasm continues, is a core part of the club and is apparent at all club activities and gatherings.
The Kennel Club gave its approval in March 2010 enabling the club to undertake additional activities. During the period between inauguration and approval the Club put on a range of activities for its members and, more importantly, their Flatcoated Retrievers. Our area covers a wide range of counties – Kent, Surrey, East & West Sussex, Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Hampshire, Avon, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, London, Hertfordshire, Essex, Bedfordshire & Middlesex, so we will be holding events near you!
The Southern Flatcoated Retriever Club has a simple goal:
To enable Flatcoated Retrievers and the owners to enjoy their lives to the full.
Out of this we have developed some key objectives for the Club to operate within. We wish to encourage responsible ownership as well as offering a variety of activities to fully benefit the Flatcoated Retriever and its’ owners and to protect its’ welfare. The activities will include learning about the breed, working, showing, obedience and agility. As well as the ‘old hands’ we want to encourage new people to love the Flatcoated Retriever and bring juniors into the breed. All of this involves promoting The Kennel Club’s code of ethics.
We are a friendly club and look forward to welcoming new members. Our Members find our events good fun and a great way of meeting new and existing friends within the breed. New people leave with a list of telephone numbers of people that they have met!
